La Cage aux Folles

Winner of the 1984 Tony Award for Best Musical and one of Broadways all-time biggest hits, La Cage Aux Folles adds new dimensions to the boulevard comedy. Georges and Albin run a transvestite nightclub in St. Tropez, where Albin is the featured performer, Zaza. Their twenty years of domestic tranquility are shattered when Georges son, fathered during a one night fling, proposes to the daughter of a bigoted politician. Albin agrees to masquerade as normal when he meets the father of the bride to be, with hilarious results. Adaptated for the screen in 1978, and again in 1996 as The Birdcage, starring Robin Williams and Nathan Lane.
