Dr. Capulet Speaks

A 19th-century tale written and performed by playwright Mort Levy, DR. CAPULET SPEAKS revolves about the testimony -- and views of women -- that renowned Victorian gynecologist Dr. Capulet gives at an inquest investigating a murder-suicide involving his much younger wife. Many of Capulet's views derive from actual medical lectures, essays, and attitudes of Victorian physicians. It is both a humorous and beguiling tale of sex and adultery as told by a character who knows everything about women as a doctor and nothing about them as a man.

DR. CAPULET SPEAKS was Mort Levy's first effort at playwriting and earned him a fellowship from the Pennsylvania Council of the Arts. He has since written two more plays, both full-length dramas, one of which, REPLACING HARRY, had its premiere at Second Stage at Philadelphia's Adrienne Theater. He is now completing his fourth effort, a two-act play he hopes to have finished early next year. In his previous lives Mr. Levy has been an English professor, a freelance writer, and a social worker. He lives in Philadelphia.
