Our 2004-2005 Season: Mainstage
The acclaimed 1959 dramatic adaptation of a Japanese story of a samurai and his wife who, by chance, encounter a bandit while traveling in the forest, resulting in the murder of the warrior and assault of the wife. In a slowly turning, ever-changing, ever-shifting trial, contradictory versions of the event are retold and reenacted, probing the question what is truth, perception and illusion, and what (and who) can be identified as criminal.
