Our 2000-2001 Season: Mainstage
Lettice and Lovage is a lovely story about two people, Lettice and Lotte, who learn to care about each other. Lettice Duffet, an expert on Elizabethan cuisine and medieval weaponry, loves history and the theatre. She is an enthusiastic tour guide at one of the least stately and least interesting of Britain's stately homes.
Lettice begins to embellish its historical past; her lecture gains theatricality and romance as it strays from the facts. Lotte, an inspector from the Preservation Trust, fires Lettice, but gradually becomes fascinated by her unusual past, her romantic world-view, and her refusal to accept the mediocre and the second rate. Lettice helps Lotte overcome the dreariness of her life, and the two women forge an alliance. This family-oriented show is caring, compassionate, funny, meaningful, and terrifically entertaining. If you have ever become friends with someone you never thought you could like, or been changed by some one you came to know well, then this show is for you.
